Equine Fly Spray

Equine fly spray

It’s no secret, flies come with the territory of owning animals (especially horses, livestock or other barnyard animals). When it comes to protecting your favorite animals, fly protection is at the top of the list. A great way of getting rid of stable flies, horse flies, mosquitoes, ticks and other flying and potentially harmful creatures is a well-made fly spray.

Fly Sprays help in protecting horses from the spreading of disease or other harmful bacterial through flies or other insects that make their home near these kinds of animals. Preventing the potential spread of disease to horses or people is a major plus, but so is just keeping those annoying pests away from us! We love that fly sprays help keep horses and other animals healthy and safe, but it also helps us keep our sanity by discouraging the settlement of these flying pests around us. Not to mention, annoying flies can impact a horses behavior as well – don’t let these buzzing creatures teach your horse bad habits like bucking, bolting, or rearing. It’s time for a horse fly spray that actually works.

Instead, let’s make sure we use one of the top options for the health, happiness and sanity of our animals and us!

Best Equine Fly Spray

There are lots of things to look for when it comes to a fly repellent that works. Take a look at our quick list below at the most important things to look for in a fly spray.

A. Protection

Obviously the most important thing to look for regarding a fly spray is the level of protection it offers your horse, cows, dogs, livestock or other animals that are being hassled and haggled by flies. As you know, flies can pass along disease or harmful bacteria – getting the perfect fly spray that delivers adequate protection is a must to keep our animals healthy and safe. Don’t forget, as you look for the best fly spray – make sure you take a look at the ingredients of the repellent that you are choosing. Some can be water based, some can be oil based – this can help show which may or may not give longer and more adequate protection. Whichever you choose, make sure you use it sparingly for the first few times to ensure your horse doesn’t have any sensitivities to the ingredients used.

B. Longevity

Few things are worse than having to reapply fly spray over and over again. This can be a tough one though, because you are looking for a healthy balance of protection, longevity, and also safety. Many top fly spray brands for horses and livestock provide chemical heavy ingredients that will last for what seems like forever, you can tell just by walking in your barn a few hours later. Finding a fly spray that offers lasting protection is essential for you as an animal owner – whether it’s horses, livestock, dogs or cats – longevity matters.

Just be mindful of what you are putting on your horse, and consequently – will most likely be rubbed off onto you, your friends or your family.

C. Safety

Like we stated above, having an equine fly spray that is effective and lasts is a tall order – but it makes it even more serious considering that you are looking for the healthiest option for you horse, barn, and others that will be in contact with your animals. Make sure you check ingredients, and you use a small sample size while trying new products. When it comes to the safety of your animals and even your family or friends, you have to be certain that what they may come in contact with is safe to use.

Now that you’ve read about what we like to consider when choosing a fly spray for our equine or barnyard animals. Take a look at our answer to solving the problem of getting all three elements out of one product – protection, longevity & safety.

The #1 Horse Fly Spray That Actually Works

Allow us to introduce you to the first organic fly spray on the market that actually works. Unlike other sprays, like maybe a homemade fly spray or a commercially available one ours does not contain harmful chemicals and can be used on many barn animals from horses to dogs, cats, goats, sheep, cows, etc. Since our spray is free from chemicals, you can be assured of no adverse effects like skin irritation, itching, or anything similar.

Our horse fly spray has been extensively tested and honed to the point where it is just as good if not better than all the chemical counterparts available. In fact, it is hands down the best fly spray for your horse or any other barn animal.

Other Features of our Stop Bugg’n  fly repellent include but aren’t limited to:

Sweat-resistant – It means that sweat does not rub the contents of the spray off the animal’s body.

Floral scent – What good is a fly spray if it does not smell good, which is why we’ve given it a light floral scent. Furthermore, it is encased in a spray bottle that makes spraying its contents very easy.

No oily coating – We hate sprays that leave behind an oily residual coating which is why we’ve made sure our fly spray for horses does not.

Repels flies for a long time – Spray once, and your favorite animal will not be bothered by flies for hours. It can repel flies for up to 12 hours in some cases.

100% organic – We have not used a single harsh chemical. The entire formulation is organic, which means you don’t have to worry about its use contaminating your farm products or having adverse effects.

Why Our Organic Fly Sprays for Horses Works?

Each year thousands of horses, in particular, are infected with blood-borne diseases transferred by the female horse fly. These are referred to as equine infectious anemia virus, anthrax amongst sheep, trypanosomes, etc. Infection in cattle reduces growth rates in addition to lowering the milk output of cows, which is why it is so important to keep horseflies away from cattle. It then also becomes equally important to use a non-toxic horse natural fly repellent, and that’s where Stop Bugg’n comes in. We know that your horses health matters.

Our organic equine fly spray was developed out of the need for a fly spray that was safe to use even if it didn’t necessarily kill flies. Over the years, it has been our personal experience and that reported by many horse owners that the standard, over-the-counter horse spray, despite being effective, was laden with chemicals. Many of those chemicals would trigger a skin reaction, contaminate the food, and have numerous other undesired effects.

The number of natural fly sprays available today is next to zero, apart from ours. That’s because a lot goes into developing and testing a natural fly spray, which many see as not being worth it, but we do. Stop Bugg’n provides a complete fly control solution that’s far more effective than using apple cider vinegar.

We understand how much you love your best friend as horse owners and lovers. We know how it feels when your best friend feels itchy, there is skin irritation, or some other infection that’s making them restless. Flies carry diseases which is why it is so important that the horse’s coat is properly coated with natural fly repellents.

Horsefly attacks are the #1 reason why many horses suffer from skin infections. Our Stop Bugg’n spray is environmentally friendly, 100% organic, and keeps those pesky stable flies or deer flies away.

Stop Bugg’n is a natural spray that includes all-natural ingredients guaranteed to keep horseflies away from your stable. In addition, it also prevents lice, houseflies, and mosquitoes, from bothering your best friend. All of which ensures that your best friend continues to be in the best of health. Furthermore, we’ve added a little extra to ensure that your pet smells great, also indicating that the spray is still doing its thing.

How Does Stop Bugg’n Work?

Stop Bugg’n uses a special formulation, aka a proprietary mixture that consists of essential oil like eucalyptus essential oil and various other active ingredients that provide complete fly protection. The spray thus creates a so-called zone of repellency against a spectrum of insects from house flies to horn flies and various other pests.

Many of our customers have found Stop Bugg’n so effective that they have ordered an entire year’s worth of it for their best friends. Furthermore, we have been able to further hone and improve the formulation based on feedback from our loyal customers, ensuring that ours is the only organic and highly effective horse fly spray that also repels other insects.

Do the environment and your best friend a favor with our 100% organically formulated horses fly spray.

Our Horse Fly Sprays Versus Others

We are aware that many other brands of Horsefly spray can be purchased, and some are arguably cheaper than others. But chemicals shouldn’t be part of your fly repellent strategies. In fact, there are many reasons why Stop Bugg’n is a great fly spray versus any other brand of spray apart from it being organic.

Stop Bugg’n Horse fly Spray:

•              Spray once, and it will repel insects for several hours

•              Refreshing smell, hygienic, and isn’t oily despite the use of essential oils

•              It protects your horse from a myriad of insects, including mosquitoes

•              Fly fighting power that outdoes the best chemical-based compounds

•              Safe for 99% of horses, even those with sensitive skin

•              It saves you from having to spend time and money on fly sheets, fly masks, or horse clothing

•              An entirely natural insect spray and repellent

Other brands of horse fly spray:

•              Uses unknown chemicals, many of which could have harmful long-term adverse effects

•              Leaves behind an oily residue and bad smell after a while

•              It does not protect the horse against a spectrum of other flying insects other than horse flies

•              Not safe for horses with sensitive skin

•              The sprays smell like medicine

•              Many horses don’t like those sprays, and it can cause them to become skittish

How long does fly spray last?

How long does fly spray last?

How Long Does Fly Spray Last?

Fly spray is an essential tool for any fly control program. It’s frustrating to sit down to dinner on a hot summer day, only to be distracted with swatting away swarms of flying insects. Without proper fly management, the average person can spend upwards of 28% of their time dealing with flies around their home.

Fly spray allows for an easy and effective way to manage and kill these pests, but this tool is only as good as its ability to remain active and potent. This can be a problem for homeowners because fly spray tends to lose its potency after about six months of storage. However, several things can be done to keep the pesticide fresh so it will last longer.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Store fly spray in a cool, dark place where it won’t come into contact with sunlight, such as a garage or under the house. Sunlight weakens any pesticide, which means it won’t work as well on flies if left in an area that’s exposed to light all day long.

Keep Product Sealed

Keep the cap of the spray bottle tightly closed at all times. This helps prevent any evaporation, which will weaken the pesticide inside and make it less effective for controlling flies.

Avoid High Heat

Extreme heat can evaporate fly spray almost as quickly as direct sunlight. If possible, try to keep the pesticide stored in a place that stays around room temperature or below. This includes places like an air-conditioned home on a hot summer day.

Charge Every Six Months

Charge fly sprays about once every six months by shaking up its contents and spraying out any clumps that have formed inside the container. The best way to do this is to put several squirts of fly spray into a spray bottle and fill in the rest of the way with water.

Test For Efficacy

Every six months, squirt out some fly spray into a small bowl or plate to test its strength on flies. If it’s still effective after six months, then you can continue storing it until the next charge. However, if the pesticide does not seem potent enough for fly control, then replace it with a fresh product purchased from your local hardware store.

Use Older Products First

Flies tend to be much easier to kill when they’re in an area that is overcrowded like a trashcan or compost pile. Why? Because there are more flies in one spot and they will be much closer together than when found elsewhere.

For this reason, it’s preferable to use any fly spray that is about to expire on these types of high-fly situations where the pesticide has a better chance of being effective.

Use Without Pesticides

Some household pesticides kill flies faster when used in combination with another chemical – but can be especially harmful to humans and/or pets.

Finding the perfect fly spray without pesticides can be a difficult task, but here at StopBuggn’ we make it easy. Check out our all natural & organic fly spray.

In Conclusion

Fly spray is a great tool for pest management, but it can only be effective if the product remains active and potent. Did you know that fly sprays need to remain sealed in their original containers? Exposure to light or heat can cause many products to lose effectiveness.

If you are looking for the perfect fly spray that lasts – look no further than our safe, natural and organic fly spray – Stop Buggn.

Is Fly Spray Harmful to Dogs?

Is Fly Spray Harmful to Dogs?

When the weather starts to warm up, many pet owners notice that flies become more prevalent in their yard or neighborhood. While some people feel it is disgusting to swat at these bugs with your hands, others may find it equally gross to let the pests stay on their beloved pets.

The use of a traditional fly spray on dogs is not recommended for several reasons. Insecticide sprays can be dangerous to pets if ingested or inhaled. Many insecticides used in the sprays are also known as neurotoxins and have a serious effect on a dog’s health once it has been sprayed.

There are other ways for a pet owner to get rid of flies besides using these toxic fly sprays that may potentially hurt your pet or even you or your family members.

What Is Fly Spray

Traditional fly spray contains insecticides that irritate the insects and cause them to either die or fly away. The sprays are available in several forms, including aerosols, pump-up garden sprayers, hose-end sprayers, and bait stations.

Traditional chemical fly sprays are made with multiple ingredients that include pyrethrins or permethrin. These are neurotoxins that affect the bug’s nervous system, which causes them to die or fly away. However, there is also the risk of this toxin affecting your beloved pets if they inhale it or ingest it through licking themselves.

Alternatives To Using Chemical Fly Sprays On Dogs

Using a chemical and potentially harmful fly spray is not recommended because of the neurotoxins involved which can be harmful to your pet. Instead of using one of these fly sprays on your dog for pest control, try these other options:

Natural Fly Sprays

Our natural fly spray from Stop Buggn’ uses all natural oils that flies and other flying insects hate. There are no toxic chemicals used, which means there is no longer a risk of putting potentially harmful ingredients and chemicals on our pets and animals. Stop Buggn’ was the first organic, non-chemical fly spray for dogs, cats, and other household pets. It’s our first defense in keeping pesky flies off our dogs and cats.

Fly Traps

There are various types of fly traps available at local hardware stores that will catch pesky flies by using ultraviolet beams to attract them. Once inside, they will be stuck in a thick gluey substance unable to escape and eventually die.

Bug Zappers

These devices are plugged into an outlet outside and emit electricity that attracts bugs like mosquitoes, which then get electrocuted when they enter. Unfortunately, this type of device is not safe for pets either and should never be put in the same area as your pet.

Bait Stations

There are also bait stations available that will attract flies and prevent them from coming into your home or outdoor living areas. You can purchase these devices online or at local hardware stores. They contain a material such as an insecticide or bait that will attract flies to come in contact with the substance.

Porch Lights

Sometimes, just turning off the porch light and making it dark outside, will cause the flies to go away. This is because most bugs are attracted to light and if there is no light for them to be attracted to then they will move on.

Herbs

There are certain plants and herbs you can plant in your yard to reduce flies and keep them away from your beloved pets, such as catnip, dill, lavender, lemon balm, mints (peppermint or spearmint), marigolds, onions.

Keep in mind that if you use any sort of chemical on your pet to prevent flies, you should be careful where you apply it. Never put fly spray anywhere near the face or eyes of your dog because it will cause more harm than good. There are also other products available at pet stores that contain natural ingredients which discourage pests from hanging around.

When Should I Call The Vet?

If your dog has already come into contact with a toxic fly spray it is important to be watchful for signs of poisoning. These include drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, etc. If you notice anything irregular in your pet’s behavior or any abnormalities in its bodily functions, take them to the vet immediately so they can be properly treated.

If swallowed or inhaled, the insecticide can cause serious side effects for your pet. These include abnormal behavior, seizures, tremors, and even death in extreme cases. When using insecticide sprays around your pets, it is important to remember that they are highly toxic.

Tips For Keeping Flies Away From Your Pet In General

It is important to note that any insecticide should never be applied directly onto your pet; instead, it should always be placed somewhere away from your four-legged friend, such as on the ground. Insecticide sprays should only be used to treat the outdoors and not inside by any pets or other animals.

Pet owners may also want to refrain from using fly spray due to environmental concerns as well. Insecticides can easily get washed away by rainfall, which can cause them to seep into groundwater. If this water becomes polluted, then it can have a serious effect on the surrounding ecosystem.

Natural fly spray for horses and woman petting horse

Natural Fly Spray for Horses

It’s time to take a look at natural fly sprays for horses. All the chemicals, the potential side effects, it’s time to get away from the horse fly sprays that use potentially harmful chemicals. It’s time to protect your horse from flies in a natural way.  Horses are beautiful animals.  They have been around for thousands of years, and our fascination with them has not diminished.  So many people find enjoyment in spending time with horses—everything from a backyard pet to serious competition.

And as much as people love spending time with horses, they are not as fond of what naturally follows them – flies.  If you have ever spent any time around horses or stables, you know that you can expect flies.  Lots and lots of flies!

Fly sprays can help protect you and your horse from flies. However, we believe that natural fly spray for horses is the best way to go.  When you want to protect yourself and your horse from those pesky flies, don’t you also want to protect yourself from harsh, unnecessary chemicals?  Most chemical fly sprays don’t even last that long. And those chemicals can lead to further issues down the road.

We took our love of horses, our dislike for flies and chemicals, and created a natural, no harsh chemical, natural fly spray for horses – Stop Bugg’n.  Our equine fly spray is proven to keep those pesky flies at bay for hours, giving you plenty of time spent enjoying your horse.

Fly Distractions

Flies are a nuisance, no question.  When you are around horses, it’s even worse.  Horses just attract them in abundance.

It’s frustrating for us as horse owners and riders as we feel we are constantly under siege from those pesky little buggers.  And let’s be honest, getting stung by a horsefly is no picnic.

Not only do these flies bug us, but they also bug our horses.  When the flies are swarming, our horses are swishing their tails, lifting their legs to get rid of the flies, shaking their heads, etc. It’s not a whole lot of fun dodging tails, legs, and heads.  Not to mention it can be dangerous.  We can get in the way of a wayward hoof or head.  Plus, it really hurts if you catch a tail in the eye!

And that is why we took to the drawing board to create a safe, effective fly treatment for you and your horse – Stop Bugg’n.

First Organic, Non-Chemical Fly Spray for Horses

You may wonder why we went to all the trouble to create an organic, non-chemical fly spray.  Well, the answer is easy.  We love our horses as much as you love yours.  We are all looking for better ways to take care of ourselves. So we find ourselves looking for non-chemical options and organic foods and products.  We feel it’s essential to do the same for our beloved horses.  Plus, it’s a win-win situation since we aren’t fond of flies either.

We created a fly spray that is 100% all-natural.  Stop Bugg’n will keep you, your favorite equine, and your stables free from all those pesky horse flies, stable flies, houseflies, horn flies, and deer flies.  And even better, our spray will also keep lice, ticks, and mosquitos at bay.  How great is that?

Not only does our fly spray deter the most determined fly, but it also keeps the harmful bugs away.  The bugs are known to spread disease throughout our barns.
